Search Examples List

Example 1:  You want to find documents discussing the effect of a cure notice in a default termination situation.  You could enter this search: ((<stem> default) <near/4> (<stem> terminat)) <paragraph> ((cure or curing or cured) <sentence> (<stem> notic))

This search finds documents with the word default (and variations) within 4 words of termination (and variations), which are within the same paragraph of the combination of cure (or curing or cured) within the same sentence with notice (and variations).  The parentheses control the order of evaluation of the search connectors and can be nested as one would do in standard algebra.

Example 2:  You want to find documents discussing the timeliness of filing a protest.  You could enter this search: (<stem> time) <near/6> (file or filing or filed)) <near/7> protest

This search finds documents with the word time (and variations) within 6 words of the word file or filing or filed, which are within 7 words of the word protest.

Example 3:  You want to find documents discussing the defects in a bid bond.  You could enter this search: ((<stem> defect) <sentence> bid <sentence> bond

This search finds documents with the word defect (and variations) within the same sentence with the words bid and bond.

Example 4:  You want to find documents referring to the Chief Procurement Officer's role in making a determination to declare a contract void ab inititio.  You could enter this search: ((Chief <near/2> Procurement <near/2> Officer) or CPO) <sentence> ((<stem> void) <near/4> contract) 

This search finds documents with the phrase Chief Procurement Officer or the abbreviation CPO within the same sentence of the word void (and variations) which are within 4 words of the word contract.  The parentheses control the order of evaluation of the search connectors and can be nested as one would do in standard algebra.
