Nicholas A. Majett

Nicholas A. Majett was appointed Administrative Judge of the Contract Appeals Board on October 7, 2019. Judge Majett is a native-born Washingtonian and graduate of DC Public Schools.

Throughout his career, Judge Majett has become experienced with the District of Columbia and Maryland contract and procurement laws. He served as a Board and Committee Member to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water), the Pension Trust Fund Board of Trustees and chaired the Position Review Board. Most recently, Judge Majett served as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Prince George’s County, Maryland from May 2014 until November 30, 2018. As the CAO, Judge Majett was the highest appointed official in the County and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the County government. He had review and approval authority over multi-million dollar purchasing budgets and handled contract disputes at the award and performances levels.

Prior to his position as CAO, Judge Majett served in the District of Columbia Government in several capacities for over 29 years. In 1985, he joined the D.C. Office of the Attorney General (formerly the Office of the Corporation Council) and served as an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) for approximately 19 years. During his tenure as an AAG, Judge Majett handled contract, regulatory, real estate, tax and civil cases, and prosecuted tax and government fraud cases. He also served as the Chief of Assessment Services for the Office of Tax and Revenue.

In 2011, Judge Majett became the Director of the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) where he was responsible for the overall management and oversight of the District of Columbia's regulatory agency that ensures the health, safety, and economic welfare of District residents through licensing, inspection, compliance, and enforcement programs. He was credited with turning around the agency.

Judge Majett earned both his Bachelor of Science and Law Degrees from Howard University before becoming a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association. He currently serves as Co-Chair on the steering committee of the District of Columbia Affairs Community. He has served as a member of the Advisory Committee to the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings, Board of Directors for the Washington, D.C. Economic Partnership, D.C. Streetcar Task Force, D.C. Affordable Housing Task Force, and as a Board Member of “Joseph’s House”, a D.C. nonprofit organization.

Over the years Judge Majett has received several awards. Most recently, he was the recipient of the Council of Governments Visionary Leader Award (2017) and The Made Man Award, DC (2018).
